Getting your Evidence Together

What is Relevant Evidence?

In family law matters, relevant evidence in a parenting matter would be information that directly relates to the best interests of the child.

This may include a range of evidence such as the child’s current and past living arrangements, the emotional and psychological impact of these arrangements, and any special needs the child might have.

Additionally, evidence about each parent’s capacity to provide for the child’s physical, emotional, and educational needs, their involvement in the child’s life, and their ability to facilitate a relationship between the child and the other parent is also crucial.

INSERT Video – Record Keeping

It’s very helpful for you and your lawyer if you have one, to keep accurate records. This includes times and dates of your court appearances, a file of correspondence from your lawyer, and the other side’s legal correspondence. If you don’t have a printer, then it’s a good time to get one or use office work or a printing house. If you don’t want to print, then store as PDFs in an organised folder on your computer.

The reason it’s good to keep organised is because it will

  • Save you money
  • Save you time
  • Keep you focused
  • Keep accurate records that are easy to find
  • Reduce stress when things are time sensitive (as they often are)
